Frustration is mounting amongst local beekeepers as a recent spike in honey theft plagues farms across the county. What was once a rare occurrence has become a worrying trend, with several apiaries reporting significant losses of honey, hives, and even entire bee colonies over the past few weeks.

“It’s devastating,” says Martha Green, owner of Green Acres Honey, a family-run business operating for over 30 years. “We lost about half of our honey stores last week. They even took some of our best-producing hives. It’s not just the financial loss, it’s the damage to the bees themselves.”

Authorities are investigating the incidents, with preliminary findings suggesting a possible link to the soaring price of honey. Global honey production has been impacted by various factors, including climate change and colony collapse disorder, leading to increased demand and inflated prices.
